Sony Announces A Major PlayStation 5 Event For Wednesday September 16, Will Pricing And Release Date Be Announced?

The wait for information on the PlayStation 5 might be coming to an end this week. Sony has announced plans to hold a major PlayStation 5 event on Wednesday, September 16 at 4 p.m. EST.

It is believed that we might finally get some of the major answers to some burning questions, like how much will the PS5 cost and when will the PS5 release?

The event is slated to be a 40-minute digital showcase, which will also include updates from first-party Sony game studios and third-party developers.

While many are expecting to get a price and release date at long last, that is far from confirmed. Sony has only stated that fans will be able to get “one more look at some of the great games coming the PS5 at launch (and beyond!)”

Of course, Microsoft recently burst onto the news cycle with some major news regarding the release date and price for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It was announced that both systems would be releasing on November 10, and that Microsoft was charging $299 for the Series S and $399 for the Series X.

The only movement we’ve gotten from Sony on these fronts in recent weeks is a preorder pre-registration sign up just last month.

Pre-orders for the Xbox systems will open on September 22, so Sony has to make a move at some point soon.

PlayStation fans are also hoping to get some new game announcements. Sony has a slew of high performing exclusive titles, and many are wondering when or if follow ups will be coming to the next gen platform.

Perhaps chief among those is a sequel to 2018’s God of War, which took the gaming world by storm, recreating this iconic franchise with a bold new direction, fantastic voice acting, and a phenomenal story.

Many incorrectly assumed that God of War would be one of the first major announcements to come when the PlayStation 5 was announced, but there was no information on this anticipated sequel to be found.

In fact, Sony has yet to even confirm that the sequel title is in production. However, anyone following game director Cory Barlog on Twitter can tell that Santa Monica studios has something cooking in regards to continuing adventures for Kratos and Atreus.

Stay tuned to Happy Gamer this Wednesday for news on the PlayStation 5 following Sony’s showcase. The digital event will take place at 4 p.m. EST on Wednesday September 16 at PlayStation.com/PS5.
