Miley Cyrus has confirmed her split from Cody Simpson.

They singers were together for less than a year following her split from husband Liam Hemsworth and relationship with Kaitlynn Carter.

Miley, 27, addressed the break up in an Instagram live video on Thursday night, telling fans both she and Cody were going to “work on” themselves during their time apart.

The former Hannah Montana star says she remains firm friends with Cody, 23, who she’s known for a decade.

Explaining why she was speaking out, Miley referenced her split from Liam last year.

She told fans: “A year ago, almost to this exact date, the media tried to tell my story for me, and control my narrative, and I’m just not accepting that.

“So today, it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up.

“It was confirmed by a ‘reliable source’ even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the individuals who are participating in it.

“But right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age.”

She went on: “We are just deciding who we wanna be in our lives, what we wanna do, and so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re hanging out, getting pizza.

“We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not.”

Miley and Cody knew each other for a decade, but became close friends in 2015.

They had been appearing on the Zach Sang show together that year when Cody described Miley as “the coolest girls I’ve ever met here in LA”.

In an interview with GQ that year, he spoke about his super close bond with Miley.

He told the mag: “Miley is one of my best friends and she helps with some of that transitional stuff – trying to escape your childhood. She’s super open-minded and I’m working on becoming more like that.”

Their friendship grew into a romance in October 2019 following her high-profile split with her husband, Hunger Games star Liam, who she had been with on and off for 10 years.
