Jalen Ramsey Becomes the Highest-Paid CB, Signs a $105 Million Extension With LA Rams

Jalen Ramsey and the Los Angeles Rams have signed a huge contract extension, which makes the CB the highest-paid player in his position.

For the additional five years in Los Angeles, Ramsey will get $105 million, with $71.2 million at signing. It is the first deal for one defensive back that eclipses $100 million.

His agent David Mulugheta confirmed the story.

At the moment, Ramsey is in the final year of his rookie deal, which earns him $13.7 million. The player indicated earlier that he would like to have his contract solved before the start of the season, and the Rams eventually agreed.

Ramsey was dominant throughout the entire training camp and was showing an incredible motive for playing and proving himself. It seems that he likes LA, and that the 25-year old wanted to stay here long-term.

The six-foot-one cornerback who was the fifth pick in the 2016 NFL draft is one of the best in the league. Ramsley proved his worth while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent three and a half seasons in Florida before being traded to LA.

The reason for such a scenario was his unhappiness and frequent disputes with head coach Doug Marrone. During Week 2 of the 2019 season and a game against the Houston Texans, he and Marrone were on the verge of a fight after one nasty altercation.

Shortly after that, the Jags traded Ramsey to LA for the 2020 first-round pick, and 2021 first and a fourth-round selection. According to many, his trade was the starting point of Jacksonville’s decline, and decomposition of one of the most talented defensive units in the last decade.

In 60 appearances in the NFL, Ramsey posted 213 tackles, 49 pass deflections, 10 interceptions, and three forced fumbles. He is a three-time Pro Bowler, twice with the Jags and once with the Rams, and a first-team All-Pro in 2017.

The Rams now have two of the top 10 defenders in the league contracted long-term. Besides Ramsey, the franchise from LA has Aaron Donald, the two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Along with Jared Goff, these two guys should be the stars of this team.

LA Rams open their season next Sunday, at home against the Dallas Cowboys. After that, they have two road games against the Eagles in Philadelphia and the Bills in Buffalo.
