Media giant Rupert Murdoch, 91, and Jerry Hall, 65, are reportedly going their separate ways and heading for a divorce.

The Australian-born billionaire and the former model-actress tied the knot March 2016 in central London, after courting for five months.

Murdoch marked the occasion by announcing on Twitter he would stop posting on the platform, calling himself “the luckiest and happiest man in the world.”

But according to the New York Times the pair have now split and are set to divorce – with the American publication claiming those close to Murdoch were “surprised” to learn of the end of the six-year marriage.

Neither party is yet to comment on the reports, with Bryce Tom, a spokesman for Murdoch, declining to comment on the reports while Ms Hall’s agent failed to respond to enquiries.

Did Jerry Hall sign a prenup before marrying Rupert Murdoch?

Prior to tying the knot in 2016, both Murdoch and Ms Hall had both walked down the aisle before and welcomed children into the world with other partners.

Murdoch had been married three times previously, while Ms Hall wed Ms Jagger – the father of her four children – in 1990 but their marriage was annulled in 1999.

Media tycoon Murdoch, who is worth £14.5 billion, has six children – including two daughters with his third wife Wendi Deng, whom he divorced in 2013.

In January 2016, Murdoch announced his engagement to Ms Hall via a notice in The Times newspaper before going on to becoming a married man for the fourth time a week before his 85th birthday in March of the same year.

It’s not known for certain whether the two stars signed a prenuptial agreement prior to marrying at St Bride’s, Fleet Street, but it is speculated that the billionaire will have protected his fortune.

Speaking to the MailOnline, lawyer Mark Stephens, of the Howard Kennedy firm, claims Murdoch could have possibly signed a “fairly generous” pre-nuptial agreement.

The publication reports how the legal professional has explained how this would have been drafted with the “anticipation of not interfering with the line of succession”, for the Murdoch’s multi-billion pound business empire.

In their report breaking the news of Murdoch and Ms Hall’s alleged split, the New York Times claim sources close to Murdoch were ‘surprised’ about the pending end of a marriage that had allowed Murdoch’s oldest son, Lachlan, to take a more leading role running his father’s portfolio.

Through his company News Corp, Murdoch is the owner of hundreds of local, national, and international publishing outlets around the world, including The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post in America.

Murdoch also owns television broadcasting channels Sky News Australia and Fox News (through the Fox Corporation) and book publisher HarperCollins, amongst other properties and businesses.

How much will Jerry Hall if she and Rupert Murdoch divorce?

Multiple mansions and a £228million ranch could be part of the ‘fairly generous’ divorce settlement Ms Hall receives if the rumours are true and she and Murdoch are heading for divorce.

While the majority of billionaire’s fortune will be protected thanks to a rumoured prenuptial agreement being in places, properties the couple have acquired since their wedding in 2016 could be split.

In 2019 – three years on from tying the knot – the two stars snapped up a £11.25million Georgian property near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, before going on to also purchase a property in the Cotswolds the following year.

Last December Murdoch and Ms Hall splashed out £228 million on a 340,000-acre cattle ranch near Yellowstone Park in America to add to their global property portfolio.

Other properties and assets are rumoured to include a winery in Los Angeles, a sheep and cattle farm in Murdoch’s home country of Australia and a ranch in California.

Prior to marrying Murdoch in 2016, Ms Hall was already a global celebrity and wealthy in her own right thanks to her successful career as a model and an actress.

The mum-of-four’s split from Rolling Stone Mick Jagger reportedly left her with a settlement of around £18million when the pair went their separate ways in 1999.
