Brad Pitt has said that he has “always felt very alone” in his life as he speaks out about how his felt since the collapse of his marriage to Angelina Jolie.

The 58-year-old Hollywood actor has changed his life since the divorce was finalised in 2016 and he has said that everyone will experience similar heartache in their lives at some point.

Speaking to British GQ said that he has tried to embrace positivity in recent years but tempered this by saying that deep sadness may be just around the corner.

Brad said: “I think all our hearts are broken. I always felt very alone in my life, alone growing up as a kid, alone even out here, and it’s really not till recently that I have had a greater embrace of my friends and family.

“What’s that line, it was either Rilke or Einstein, believe it or not, but it was something about when you can walk with the paradox, when you carry real pain and real joy simultaneously, this is maturity, this is growth.”

In 2016, Brad also decided to quit alcohol and while he has felt isolated, he said that the friendship and community he has found from attending Alcoholics Anonymous, for 18 months, has helped him with his issues surrounding addiction.

Brad continued: “I had a really cool men’s group here that was really private and selective, so it was safe.

“Because I’d seen things of other people who had been recorded while they were spilling their guts, and that’s just atrocious to me.”

As well as quitting alcohol, Brad also knock cigarettes on the head after smoking throughout his adult life.

He has now taken to nicotine flavoured gum and speaking about his previous smoking habit, Brad said: “I don’t have that ability to do just one or two a day.

“‘It’s not in my makeup. I’m all in. And I’m going to drive into the ground. I’ve lost my privileges.”

Brad has also admitted that for many years he would smoke marijuana every day, including throughout his marriage to actress Jennifer Aniston in the early noughties.

He told New York Times in 2019: “I spent most of the ’90s hiding out and smoking pot. I was too uncomfortable with all the attention.”

Since his divorce from Angelina, Brad has won many plaudits for his film roles including scooping top prizes for playing stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Despite this adulation, Brad told GQ that his dreams have been blighted with fears that he will be stabbed.

He said: “For a solid four or five years there, the most predominant dream I would experience would be getting jumped and stabbed.

“And I would awake in a terror. I didn’t understand why it/they would want to hurt me.

“This stopped a year or two ago only when I started going straight back into the dream and asking simply why?”
