Naomi Campbell has penned an emotional tribute to her grandmother, who died at the age of 77.
Naomi wrote that Ruby Louise Campbell Russell came to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, but that her “heart always remained in Jamaica”.
Windrush refers to the post-war period of immigration, during which nearly half a million immigrants came to Britain and helped the country cope with its new labour shortage.
Sharing a string of snaps of the two of them together, Naomi thanked her “true, loyal” grandma for all the principles she had instilled.
“Dear Grandma Ruby Louise Campbell Russel,” she wrote, “all that I am is because of you , even though I would moan and groan to have to do my chores , your discipline has remained with me till this very day and I thank you.
“Wife , Mother Grandmother , Great grandmother , you have taught us all to have strength and courage in trying times and to hold our heads up high and stay true to our integrity.”
She added: “You came to uk during Windrush for better opportunity , but your heart always remained in Jamaica.
“You stayed true and loyal to your faith for 77 years . You travelled the world and was loved by so many where ever you would go.
“I will miss you Grandma , you were the Matriarch of our family that held us so closely together . , know your strength is instilled in me .
“I love you forever more . Until we meet again on the other side . May you take your place with the highest Rest In Peace Grandma My Ruby.”
Naomi was soon flooded with words of support from her army of fans.
One remarked: “She sounds like truly an incredible soul, sending love.”
Another offered: “I see where your beauty comes from. May your wonderful, strong, inspiring Grandma Rest In Peace.”
“Sending lots of love to you & your family,” a third commented.
Naomi made headlines recently when she backed singer Adele during a cultural appropriation row.
Adele sparked a backlash when she wore her hair in Bantu knots in a post about how much she missed Notting Hill Carnival.
