Ellen DeGeneres has been advised, in a ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ kind of way, to act up to the persona that she has been accused of being.
The 62-year-old host of daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been accused of cultivating a ‘toxic workplace’ by a number of former employees, along with a number of fingers being pointed at her own ‘diva’ attitude.
The comedian has been told to embrace this view of her personality by shock jock Howard Stern, who said that this was the time to “just be a p***k” so not to disappoint anyone.
While there have been calls for a change in the ways of the culture at the show, with Warner Bros. launching an investigation, Howard told listeners to his SiriusXM show that now was time to behave in the way that Ellen has been accused of.
Speaking on the Howard Stern Show, he said that if he were in the talk show host’s, then he would “change [his] whole image.”
Howard, who is known for speaking his mind no matter how unpopular or confrontational it is, said on Monday: “I’d go on the air and be a son of a b****.
“People would come on and [I would] go, ‘F*** you.’ Just be a p***k.”
The 65-year-old DJ continued: “So you think I’m a p***k? I’m going to show you exactly. … I’m known on the air as a p***k, but off the air, I’m known as a great guy, you know, for the most part.”
Howard and Ellen have been friends for a long time and he used her show to remarry his wife Beth in 2019.
While Howard was forthright with his thoughts on what Ellen should do, he did say that she should really work things out with her staff first before heading down his more extreme path.
He said that he has been re-evaluating the culture at his own show in the wake of the Ellen accusations, pointing out that one staff writer had been late to work “900 times” without any recrimination.
Howard told his listeners: “You know who’s abused in my workplace? Me.”
Ellen has found herself under increasing pressure to call it a day with her show, with James Corden being muted as a replacement should she go.
The TV star has said that she has no intention of quitting and actually returns on August 24 for the filming of Ellen’s Game of Games.
