Jessie Wallace: EastEnders star restrained by police officers

Jessie Wallace has been warned by BBC chiefs about her conduct after she was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The star, who plays fiery Kat Slater in EastEnders, was cautioned after a drunken bust-up at the weekend.

A BBC spokesman said yesterday: “Senior bosses have spoken to Jessie Wallace about the incident and issued a clear warning that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. Jessie has expressed her deep regret.”

It comes as friends have urged the soap star to make some changes.

One pal said: “She needs to step back, slow down and try to sort her head out. It goes without saying this behaviour is deeply unprofessional.”

Jessie, 50, was handcuffed by police outside a nightclub at around 2am on Sunday.

A source said: “What message does this behaviour send to some of the younger members of the cast?”

BBC bosses have been trying to piece together what happened and were locked in meetings mulling over what action to take.

Police confirmed a 50-year-old woman was cautioned after being held on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and drunk and disorderly conduct.

An onlooker said: “She was screaming abuse at the police. One officer said he would take the cuffs off if she calmed down, but when he did, she kicked off again. There was a crowd… filming it.”

Jessie was said to have been accompanied by a man when she was held by three officers after becoming abusive outside the Verve club in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Police said the woman they arrested “was released without charge after receiving a conditional caution”.

To accept a conditional caution, a suspect must sign a document detailing and admitting the offence.

It is not a conviction but is recorded on the Police National Computer.

It is marked as spent after three months but can still be used in any future criminal proceedings as evidence of a person’s character.

Jessie, who started on the BBC1 soap in 2000, was written out for two months in 2020 after an “incident while filming”.

Bosses reportedly said she needed to “sort herself out”.

Jessie was handed a 15-month driving ban in 1998 for failing to take a breathalyser test. She got a three-year ban in 2003 for drink-driving.
