Britney Spears’ dad Jamie slams #FreeBritney campaign as ‘conspiracy theory’

Fans behind #FreeBritney have called for Britney Spears to be released from the 12-year-long conservatorship that sees her father Jamie control her affairs

Britney Spears’ dad has hit out at the #FreeBritney campaign targeted at him.

Jamie Spears has called the internet movement a “conspiracy theory” and said its backers don’t understand what’s really going on in his daughter’s life.

Fans behind #FreeBritney believe that the singer, 38, is being controlled emotionally and financially in her 12-year-long conservatorship, which Jamie and other management staff hold over her.

But he says the movement “is a joke” and “horrible” as he urged the fans to leave his family alone.

He told Page Six : “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue.

“It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.”

Jamie also said he couldn’t possibly get away with stealing money from his daughter, which many of her supporters believe.

He urged the more crazed fans to back off.

Jamie said: “People are being stalked and targeted with death threats. It’s horrible.

“We don’t want those kinds of fans. I love my daughter.”

Britney was placed under a conservatorship in 2008 after her much-publicised breakdown and divorce from Kevin Federline, with whom she shares sons Preston and Jayden.

Her father and temporary conservator Jodi Montgomery have been in charge of handling Britney’s personal affairs over the past twelve years.

100,000 people have signed a #FreeBritney petition on Change.org for the conservatorship to be scrapped.

It says: “She deserves to live and not be told what to do, when to to do it & how to do it. She can control her own life.

“Her team has kept her quiet for years and it’s now time for Britney to speak! She’s been held against her will and kept quiet for too long.
