Obsidian Studio New Fantasy Title Avowed Trailer Released – New Game Set In Pillars Of Eternity World

Obsidian Entertainment is a gaming studio with an interesting history. Although they have created their own original titles, the studio is primarily known for creating sequels of preexisting franchises. Many know Obsidian Entertainment for creating the beloved Fallout: New Vegas, as well as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II.

The studio now seems intent on changing that view, as they released their own sci-fi RPG game titled the Outer Worlds. The game received mostly positive reception, and this seemingly emboldened the studio with the arrival of two more titles currently in development.

The newest announcement from Obsidian introduces “Avowed,” a fantasy RPG game that is reportedly coming to only PC and the Xbox Series X. The trailer was revealed on July 23, 2020, at the Xbox Games Showcase, and served as only a brief cinematic introduction to the game.

While the trailer was only around 1 minute, 30 seconds long, there is still quite a bit of information to be gathered. One such intriguing piece of information is the game will be set in the “Pillars of Eternity” universe.

The Pillars of Eternity game is a top-down fantasy RPG that takes place in the world of Eora. This in-game universe is an intriguing one, filled with unique lore and mixtures of classical fantasy tropes with new ideas as well. It is certainly an interesting backdrop for a game that Obsidian can further build upon.

So what do we know about the game? At this point, not a lot. However, we can learn more about the game by looking at the lore provided in Pillars of Eternity. In Pillars of Eternity, firearms were present although still not optimized enough to see widespread use, so it is likely they will be included in this game as well.

Another feature that might be making an introduction is the races included in Pillars of Eternity. The trailer showcased a human, (from what we can tell of the hands anyway) but other races that could make an appearance are Aumaua, Dwarf, Elf, Orlan, and Godlike. Hopefully, the game will include a character customization screen despite taking place in the first-person.

Overall this announcement has given fans of both the studio and Pillars of Eternity universe plenty to be excited about. The game is set to release in 2021, which has fans of the Elder Scrolls series particularly excited. Make sure to check back here for more information about this new title as it releases.
