Alex Trebek’s wife has thanked fans for their support following the Jeopardy! host’s death, who died last week.
80-year-old Alex had battled stage four pancreatic cancer, and “passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
And amid an outpouring of tributes and fan support, his wife Jean has reached out to any and all who sent kind words her way.
Sharing a snap from their 1990 wedding day, Jean wrote: “My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity.
“Your expressions have truly touched our hearts. Thank you so very, very much.
“Many Blessings to all, Jean Trebek.”
Jean and Alex were married for 30 years, and share Matthew, 30, and Emily, 27.
Alex also had daughter Nicky with ex-wife Elaine.
At the time of his death, Alex has survived multiple rounds of chemotherapy having received his diagnosis in March last year.
And despite the news of his illness and a 7% survival rate, Alex announced he had no plans to retire from hosting his game show.
Alex kept up his positive attitude and legendary good humour throughout his cancer battle, joking that he was under contract to host Jeopardy! until 2022.
“Truth told, I have to!” he laughed, “Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years!”
Following news of his death, the Chief Executive of the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK said: “We are very sorry to hear that Alex Trebek has died. He spoke courageously throughout his treatment for pancreatic cancer, raising the profile of this devastating disease both in the United States and globally by supporting the work of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition.
“That this very sad news should come during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month makes it all the more poignant and our thoughts are with his family, friends and millions of fans.
“Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer in UK. While the last 50 years has seen significant improvement in survival for other cancers, there has been a shocking lack of progress for pancreatic cancer.
“It remains very difficult to diagnose and very difficult to treat – that is why we are so determined to continue funding cutting-edge research, campaigning for change and supporting patients and their loved ones.
