James Haskell secretly tried to bribe a crew member as he was so desperate for food during his stint on I’m A Celebrity.
The former rugby player, who participated on the reality show last year, was willing to cough up a staggering £500 in exchange for a 60p Mars bar to cure his hunger pangs.
He took the plunge after spending weeks in the Jungle chowing down on a diet of just rice and beans – eager to find something a little tastier.
The star revealed how he tried and failed to bribe a “sound guy” named Murray who was working on the show, explaining to SPORTBible’s The Social that he told him: “I’ll give you 500 quid when we get out of here if you get me a Mars bar.”
In response, the sound member said: “I’ve had bigger offers than that. I’ve had propositions.”
But James had no luck and was forced to stick to the bland rice and beans diet – which was around 100 calories per portion – according to the star, who had tracked the tiny food portions on his MyFitnessPal app when he came out.
James added: “You don’t get anymore food than them two little sachets of rice and beans and I put them into My FitnessPal app which tells you how many calories.
“89 calories I was eating from seven o’clock in the morning to eight o’clock at night. You put cooking oil in, a hundred calories. So, to say I was on edge.”
He confirmed that there are no secret snacks being given out in-between filming, adding: “I’m 100% being brutally honest with you, there is no extra food.”
This year’s campmates are set to go head-to-head in a series of challenges as the show returns for its 20th series at Gwrych Castle in North Wales on Sunday.
The line-up consists of olympic hero Mo Farah and journalist Victoria Derbyshire, as well as TV presenter Vernon Kay and former EastEnders star Jessica Plummer.
Due to the pandemic, the iconic show has relocated to the Welsh countryside and stars are isolating in luxury cottages and hotels ahead of the show’s launch.
It’s set to be one of the most exciting series yet as ITV bosses managed to pull it together during the pandemic and fans have hailed the line-up as “the best ever.”
