Kate Garraway’s ‘uncertainty eats her alive’ over husband Derek Draper’s health
Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway’s ‘uncertainty eats her alive’ over husband Derek’s health as he recovers from the coronavirus, according to her close pal Clare Nasir
Kate Garraway’s close pal has revealed the GMB star’s “uncertainty eats her alive” over her husband Derek Draper’s health.
Her other half has been in hospital since March after being rushed in with the coronavirus, but he is slowly taking small steps to recovery.
Meanwhile Kate, 53, has been continuing with life as normal, putting on a brave face and appearing on the ITV daytime show alongside her co-stars Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan.
Last week, she was reduced to tears as Derek, 53, managed to mouth the word “pain” to doctors, with his proud wife calling it a “huge breakthrough”.
It was a highly emotional moment for her family, including kids Darcey and William, as they pray for Derek.
Watching the TV presenter face tough challenges while her husband remains in hospital, her close friend and weather presenter Clare Nasir told Closer : “Kate is a warrior and she’ll do what she has to do to get through this.”
She added: “This is someone who isn’t fazed by interviewing the Prime Minister or victims of child abuse, because she can relate to everybody and has the mental capacity to cope. She’s incredibly resilient. Some people would’ve crumbled by now, but this is going to make her stronger.”
Clare, 50, admitted: “Her priority is to keep her kids’ lives as normal as possible. The uncertainty eats her alive, but she doesn’t want that to transition to them. She’s doing an amazing job of keeping them buoyant and positive. They’re doing amazingly well – they all have that inner Garraway strength, which has sustained Kate over so many months.”
Kate’s friend also revealed she “defied all the odds” after her calm reaction when their family car was stolen from outside their home last week.
Kate was “laughing through her anxiety and shaking her head in disbelief” before sorting out the mess.
Doctors are unsure as to whether Derek will ever fully recover from his devastating battle.
He has lost 8 stone and almost died six times after his organs failed, but the TV presenter remains hopeful and positive for the sake of their children.
Kate and the family are unable to visit Derek due to restrictions, but they do FaceTime him to check up on him from their home.
