With D.J. out, Jon Rahm new betting favorite for CJ Cup

Oddsmakers quickly shortened the odds on several players following Dustin Johnson’s withdrawal from the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek due to a positive COVID-19 test.

The world’s top-ranked player had been the +850 moneyline favorite by DraftKings. That standing now goes to Spain’s Jon Rahm, with the second-ranked player’s odds shortening from +1000 to +900 after the news of Johnson’s positive test broke. Defending champion and third-ranked Justin Thomas went from +1200 to +1000. Xander Schauffele, who had been offered at +1400 along with Rory McIlroy earlier Tuesday, moved to +1100. McIlroy is now the fourth betting favorite by DraftKings at +1200.

Dramatic odds movement

Several other players saw their odds shorten even more significantly.

Matthew Wolff

Matthew Wolff has finished second in each of his past two events. He moved to +1800 from +2200, while Las Vegas resident Collin Morikawa went to +2200 from +2600.

The CJ Cup was moved to Las Vegas from Jeju Island in South Korea due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Brooks Koepka, the winner in 2018 who is making his return from an eight-week injury absence, is being offer at +2200.

BetMGM will be providing live odds during the Golf Channel’s broadcast of the CJ Cup in a first for the PGA Tour. Rahm was being offered at +800 by the sportsbook, followed by Thomas (+1100), McIlroy (+1100), Schauffele (+1200) and Wolff (+1800).
