Will Young was traumatised when he faced chilling stab threats for holding hands with his then boyfriend.
It was 14 years ago when the pop star was ambushed by someone shouting the vile threats while he was with his then partner on a night out in the East End, London.
The singer rocketed to fame on Pop Idol in 2002 and not long after winning he come out as gay.
All these years later, Will could still relay the hair-raising moment someone threatened to stab him and his then boyfriend.
He told The Times : “I was wandering through the East End about 14 years ago, holding hands with my then boyfriend, Julian, and we had people shouting at us. Someone actually threatened to stab us.”
Over the years in the limelight, the successful star has been subjected to homophobic abuse.
Will detailed picking up the phone to homophobic abuse once while he was staying in a hotel.
He went on: “I’ve had people threatening to stab me and I once had someone shouting “queer” and “faggot” at me from a Vauxhall Nova outside a pub in Hampstead.
“Although on that occasion, I just shouted “faggot” back at them, so they got confused and drove off looking rather dejected. Someone also once rang my hotel room late at night to homophobically abuse me.”
Will was devastated over his brother Rupert’s death last month.
Previously, Rupert admitted to struggling to live in his famous twin brother’s shadow.
“I woke up one morning and turned on the TV. There was William on Richard & Judy, giving the most amazing performance of one of his songs,” he told The Telegraph.
“I had spent the night before drinking with tramps in a car park and cutting myself. It seemed bizarre to me that two people who are genetically the same could behave in such different ways.
“I realised that something had gone very wrong. But I didn’t know what, or why, and nor did anyone else.”
