Wayne Lineker was left devastated after being forced to cancel his highly-anticipated Dubai nightclub opening amid a spike in coronavirus cases.
The nightlife entrepreneur, 58, made the announcement on Instagram with a “heavy heart” as he told fans he now plans to open the club next autumn.
Sharing a statement with his 523k Instagram followers, disappointed Wayne penned: “Time to share this sad news with you.
“@obeachdubai was due to open in the coming weeks but due to current times and being unable to get on site and build our amazing dream and plans we will be delaying the opening for now.”
He added: “Work will start very soon and we will update you ASAP with our new opening plans. Thank you for your patience.
“We will soon be sharing or design images and renders with you so we can all get excited again. #Dubai2021.”
“Dear Family and Friends,” Wayne began.
“In light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation we as a world have found ourselves in, along with other businesses and individuals we have been forced to make many decisions about our present and near future.”
He added: “With this in mind, you may have been aware we had big plans to open our brand new venue O Beach Dubai this autumn and we were all very excited about it.”
Wayne – brother of former footballer Gary Lineker – reassured eager fans that he hopes to open doors of his Dubai beach bar next year.
He continued: “However after a long deliberation it is with a heavy heart we inform you that we have made the decision to postpone our opening until autumn 2021.
The opening of our second venue is a huge step for us but we know this is the right decision and we cannot wait to showcase our incredible beach club to the UAE when the world is in a better place to celebrate.
“We can’t wait to welcome you then!”
Wayne’s decision comes just weeks after he was forced to close his Ibiza clubs.
He was left with no choice but to suspend his operations on the party island due to new coronavirus restrictions that ban pool parties and force nightclubs and cocktail bars to shut their doors.
Lineker’s Bar now has branches in the Costa del Sol, Majorca and Puerto Banus as well as Ibiza, where he also runs Ocean Beach – known as O Beach – a regular hang out for reality TV stars.
