Tiger Woods announced Friday that he will play in next week’s Northern Trust Open, the first of the FedEx Cup playoff tournaments.
“Excited to head to Boston,” Tiger tweeted.

Woods sits at No. 47 in the FedEx Cup standings but owns a victory (2006) and three other top-3 finishes at TPC Boston. He has played just twice in the past six months, finishing in a tie for 37th at last week’s PGA Championship after a tie for 40th at the Memorial.
Woods needs to remain in the top 70 to advance to the second playoff event, the BMW Championship in Chicago at the end of August. Only the top 30 advance to the Tour Championship in Atlanta (Sept. 4-7).
