Three of Britain’s greatest Dames – Shirley Bassey, Helen Mirren and Vera Lynn – are to go head to head in a Christmas charts battle.
Albums by the trio will be released in the week from next Friday.
Welsh superstar Dame Shirley, 83, will issue her grand finale album “I Owe It All To You” on November 6.
Screen and stage legend Helen, 75, has joined forces with presenter Fearne Cotton, 39, to record the track Lockdown Kittens Dancing for Fearne’s “Happy Place” album.
That is due for release on Friday.
And finally Britain’s sweetheart Dame Vera, who died in June aged 103, will have a posthumous album featuring her last recordings.
That comes out on the following Friday like Shirley’s and all three are on the Decca label.
A music insider said: “It is quite a moment for our national treasures. It will be interesting to see who gets to the top of the charts.”
Dame Vera Lynn’s daughter recently backed the Mirror’s remembrance campaign, calling it a “brilliant idea”.
We want people to stand outside their homes for two minutes’ silence on Remembrance Sunday to ensure fallen heroes are remembered in a year when Covid has curtailed commemorations.
Virginia Lewis-Jones, whose mum died in June at 103, said: “I definitely support this campaign.
“It is important because it brings people together and it is a question of solidarity in these times to know you are not on your own.
“We would normally have a service with a marching band through the village but because of the virus we can’t do that this year, so I think this is a brilliant idea.”
Virginia also revealed some details on her mother’s new album, Keep Smiling Through, which features never-before-heard versions of re-orchestrated classic songs.
She said: “It has been a terrible time for the older generation this year and it’s wonderful to see my mother’s legacy lives on, lifting spirits and bringing everyone together.
