Strictly star HRVY has opened up about testing positive for coronavirus after his diagnosis was reported last night.

The singer and YouTube star, whose real name is Harvey Leigh Cantwell, discovered he has Covid-19 during one of the twice weekly tests the contestants and professionals on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing are required to take this year.

21-year-old HRVY’s diagnosis means he will miss out on meeting his dance partner with the other celebrities on October 12 as he goes into isolation.

Speaking to his 4.5million Instagram followers last night, HRVY said he is lucky to not have any symptoms but is taking precaution not to spread the virus.

Speaking to camera, he said: “Hi guys, so I wasn’t going to say anything because I didn’t want to worry anybody or be dramatic but now the story’s out there. I have coronavirus. I’ve tested positive.

“All is fine, I’m isolating. I have no symptoms, explained. “I’m just chilling. I’m bored. I’ve been making a million TikToks if you haven’t seen already.

‘It just proves that us youngsters can get it and not even realise,” he told his followers.

Explaining his current set up to his fans, HRVY continued: “I’m fine but I’ll be chilling in this bedroom for 10 days or two weeks I’m not sure, but I’m gonna be here for a while. But I’ll see you on the other side.”

The star then joked he was ‘completely sidetracking’ but wanted to take the opportunity to plug his new album.

He then shared another selfie advising people to ‘stay safe out there.’

Last month HRVY was named as one of the stars of this year’s Strictly, which will be affected by new coronavirus distancing rules.

A pre-recorded launch episode is due to air the 17th October and from that point onwards any person taking part on the show who is diagnosed with coronavirus will be automatically eliminated.

The show’s professionals have been isolating together in a hotel for the last few weeks to ensure they are safe to perform the group in umbers together.

Then once the professionals and celebs are paired up they will not be able to mix with other partnerships during the competition.

There is also fewer number of contestants this year, a reduced live studio audience and the judges will be seated 2metres apart rather than behind a table together as usual.

A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed last night that one of the Strictly stars had tested positive for coronavirus.
