Simon Cowell may not be able to walk for months after breaking his back.

Insiders say that doctors have warned the X Factor boss that he faces a difficult road to recovery from his injury.

Simon, 60, broke his back when he fell off his electric bike while testing it outside his home in Malibu.

He was rushed into a six-hour emergency surgery, and is said to be recovering well.

But he still faces a long road and intense physical therapy before he’s back on his feet.

It’s said Simon might also have to wear a back brace.

A source told The Sun : “It’s going to take him weeks, maybe months.”

The Mirror revealed earlier tonight that Simon was riding “the fastest bike on earth” when he suffered his injuries.

Contrary to previous reports, Simon had bought a Swind EB-01 bike, the latest in a number of electric bikes he has purchased, but one which is incredibly speedy.

The Swind company website boasts: “Delivering a staggering 15kW of electric power, this is the most technically advanced and powerful electric bicycle on the market.”

And in a review of the bike, Wallpaper magazine called it “the fastest electric bike on earth” which is “a tech toy for thrill-seekers”.

Tweeting about his accident, Simon appeared to suggest that he underestimated the power of his new bike.

He wrote: “Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back.

“Thank you to everyone for your kind messages. And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone.”

Simon narrowly avoided being paralysed in the horror accident, as he missed breaking his spinal cord “by a centimetre”.

His back was broken in three places and he needed a metal rod inserted to fix it during his emergency operation.

Simon is now resting up, but is expected to be back on TV as early as next month for the final stages of both America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent.
