Shirley Ballas has revealed it is going to be murder on the dance floor when it comes to choosing this year’s winner – as the celebrities are all so talented.

The head judge has scored this year’s troupe of stars as the best in the history of Strictly Come Dancing – with them all able to foxtrot off with the Glitterball trophy.

Shirley said: “If we take the whole group collectively, everyone is good at something. It could be their personality, their acting skills, it could be their grace and charm.”

The star said she particularly rated the older contestants as well as the younger ones, among them actress Caroline Quentin, 60.

She said: “Caroline’s timing and her arms. It was subtle and so beautiful… and Bill Bailey, who’d have expected that? They are all capable of winning. It’s not only dancing, it’s the journey and warming to the audience. I really didn’t want to send anyone home.”

This weekend the BBC One show will resume without a studio audience due to the second national lockdown in England.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo, 36, said the stars were “gutted” by the move.

She told BBC1’s Morning Live: “Having friends and family to cheer you on really adds to the experience, but the main thing is the show is still on. This year, we’ve needed it more than ever.”

Former home secretary Jacqui Smith became the first celebrity to leave last weekend.
