Sex Pistols icon John Lydon has come out in defence of President Donald Trump as the American politician receives treatment for coronavirus.
The 64-year-old Anarchy in the UK singer – known for his Johnny Rotten alter ego – has defended 74-year-old President Trump for his achievements in office over the past four years.
While President Trump is a controversial figure for many, John says he has improved the lives of Americans by tackling unemployment rates and keeping the US economy running.
And while the US President has frequently found himself being fact checked over some of his outlandish claims, John says he doesn’t care about the former Apprentice stars’ flaws – as long as those dollars keep flowing.
He told the Daily Mail: “He can lie all day long, but if he puts money in people’s pockets, which he does, and unemployment rates drop and everybody is benefiting from the alleged rich-only taxes, he really is making the country a bit better.”
The British singer added: “I don’t care how many scandals he’s involved with.”
John’s endorsement comes hours after President Trump revealed he and wife, First Lady Melania, had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
Taking to Twitter in the early hours of Friday, President Trump wrote: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19.
“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
The President was flown to Walter Reed Hospital for treatment.
By late at night on Friday, the President gave an update on his condition via Twitter, assuring followers he is on the mend.
He tweeted: “Going welI, I think! Thank you to all. LOVE!!!”
While the official White House Physician released a statement moments later, writing: “This evening I am happy to report that the President is doing very well.
“He is not requiring any supplemental oxygen, but in consultation with specialists we have elected to initiate Remdesivir therapy.
