NIS America has announced the removal of select Danganronpa games on the PlayStation Store. The games will be removed in a rolling window and not all on the same date.
The announcement comes around the same time as the mobile launch of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc earlier this year and the upcoming mobile release of the sequel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair in Japan.
The publisher did not state why they are pulling the titles from the store. On the dates listed, the games will no longer be available for purchase. Those who have already purchased them will still be able to play them. If a player has since deleted the game to save space on their system, they can still redownload the games as well.
The blog post was very short, with only the games planned for removal and a statement thanking fans for supporting the game. Some of the commenters asked if there would be a final sale before the removal, but the company did not respond.
The Danganronpa games are a popular series of visual novels that have even launched an animated adaptation.
The games all feature a group of high school students. These students get involved in a murderous game in various locations. The protagonist has to work quickly to save his classmates from being murdered. The situation gets complicated when the students begin accusing each other, which adds in a courtroom-style element where the protagonist has to prove their case.
The games also have an extensive exploration element. Players have to play detective and investigate each murder to find the link, which may eventually lead to the killer. The game contains standard visual novel controls but adds in mini-games and other interactive puzzles.
The list of titles and their removal dates as follows:
- Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girl (PS Vita) August 31, 2020 Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (PS Vita) September 4, 2020 Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (PS Vita) September 4, 2020 Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (PS Vita) September 25, 2020 Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (PS4) September 25, 2020
The games are currently available on PC via Steam, but their removal may cause problems for those who would rather play on consoles. Some players are speculating there may have been licensing issues or that Spike Chunsoft plans to re-publish the series. If this is the case, the games may reappear in the store but under a new publisher.
The Danganronpa games are currently available through the PlayStation Store. Players who don’t already own them should act fast before they’re gone
