Prior to Netflix launching season one of The Witcher last December, the streaming service already confirmed that the show will be back for a second season, which is currently in production. Unfortunately, as of right now, we don’t know when we’ll actually be able to see the show’s second season, but at least it’s back in production after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the theme of the show’s first season, it seems like season 3 of The Witcher has already been confirmed, even though we’re still not close to seeing season two.
Over on the Writer’s Guild of America database, a fan blog called Redanian Intelligence spotted a post titled “The Witcher Season 3 (2020-2021)” to executive producer and showrunner Lauren Hissrich’s credits. It’s worth noting that the Writer’s Guild of America is a large union body, so it’s highly unlikely that this is a made-up entry, thus seemingly confirmed that Geralt of Rivia will return to The Continent for a third season.
Recently, a major character for The Witcher’s second season, a Witcher named Eskel, who was set to be played by Thue Ersted Rasmussen, had to be recast due to a scheduling conflict caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As of this writing, we don’t know who is going to fill the role, but the role’s original actor had said the following about not being able to be a part of the show’s second season.
“Sadly, due to the rescheduling because of COVID-19, I will not be portraying Eskel in The Witcher,” he wrote. “It’s heartbreaking, of course, but I mostly feel happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on set earlier this year. Everyone was extremely engaged and passionate about the project and it was a truly inspiring experience.
“I wish everyone on the show the best of luck with the rest of the production. I’m sure season two will be absolutely amazing and now I get to watch it as a fanboy instead of a Witcher.”

In addition to Eskel, The Witcher will add the following characters and cast members in season two.
- Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen Yasen Atour as Coen Agnes Bjorn as Vereena Paul Bullion as Lambert Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia Mecia Simson as Francesca Kim Bodnia as Vesemir
Again, as of right now, we don’t know when Netflix will launch season two of The Witcher, all we know is that it’ll likely be released sometime next year, possibly in the summer or fall.
