Sean Lock was 58 when he died after a secret battle with cancer.

News broke of his passing on August 20, 2021 and one year on, his absence in comedy is still felt every day.

He was first diagnosed with the disease years before it became public, with the funnyman continuing to work as he fought it quietly.

Recently, his friend and fellow comic Bill Bailey has been opening up about Sean’s fight, completing a charity walk in his memory.

Sadly, it wasn’t the first time Sean had suffered from the illness, as back in the 1990s he had a similar struggle.

Sean Lock died after battling lung cancer after being diagnosed years before he passed away in 2021.

Off The Kerb Productions confirmed the news at the time, saying that he was surrounded by his family when he died.

They said: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock. He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family.

“Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.

“Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children.

“Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him. We kindly request that the privacy of his family and children is respected at this difficult time.”

After his passing, he generously left a £3,000,000 gift for his loved ones.

It was reported that Sean filed annual accounts for his Sean Lock Ltd company a month prior to his death and it had cash reserves of just over £1,000,000 and total assets of £2,800,000, which included a property worth £350,000.

The comedian had battled the disease previously in his life when, back in 1990, he was diagnosed with skin cancer.

He believed it had been caused by his time as a builder in the 1980s, when he worked long hours in the sun.

In 2010, he looked back on his skin cancer battle, admitting that he only realised something was wrong when he spent the night with a woman named Tina.

He said: “She said there was something weird on my back.

“I asked her what it looked like, and she said it was a patch of skin which was black, misshapen, with a crusty texture and about the size of a 10p piece.

“I had no idea how long it had been there. It didn’t hurt or itch, so there was nothing that would have drawn my attention to it.

“Being in the small of my back, it was not something you could easily see while looking in a mirror.”

Thankfully, he made a full recovery after the patch of skin was removed.

Bill Bailey’s tribute to Sean Lock

Bill Bailey recently completed a charity walk in honour of Sean Lock

Bill Bailey was one of the first stars to confirm Sean’s death last year and now he has taken to social media to reflect on his passing once again.

On Instagram, he wrote: “Today will be one year since we lost the brilliant comedian and my dear friend Sean Lock.

“With his family and friends we’ve just completed a 100 mile walk on Sean’s memory, and to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.”

He encouraged fans to donate to the JustGiving page, as it is still up after the 100-mile walk.

The link to the page can be found on the JustGiving website, with over £130,000 raised already, smashing the target of £100,000.

Bill wasn’t alone on the walk, as he was joined by fellow comedian Lee Mack.
