Filming of Scream 5 has been thrown in to a nightmare of a very real nature after three crew members tested positive for coronavirus.
The fifth instalment of the horror franchise is currently filming in Wilmington, North Carolina, but production has hit a health related hiccup.
Deadline reports that three crew members tested positive for the covid-19 virus and they have now been sent in to quarantine and are awaiting testing.
The movie news site reported that filming has not been derailed, while health and safety measures are in place to limit the risk of the virus spreading to other members of crew – or to the main cast.
Deadline reported: “What is enabling production to continue is the fact that the crew members weren’t in the primary pod which includes the actors, the director, assistant directors and [Director of Photography].
“If that was the case, production would need to be paused.
“During the pandemic, productions are implementing a pod/zone approach by which the crew is separated into multiple groups, the primary one being the actors, director, DP, etc. with little interaction or none in between groups.”
The report went on to explain the measures that had been implemented due to the positive testing results.
Deadline stated: “The three Scream crew members who tested positive for COVID-19 will immediately be quarantined and undergo more testing.
“Contact tracing is also being practiced. Despite rumors that production is shutting down, that’s not the case.”
Scream 5 will see original stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette reunited as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers-Riley, and Dewey Riley respectively.
The Boys and Star Trek: Lower Decks star Jack Quaid, 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette, and You actress Melissa Barrera have joined the cast of the slasher flick.
The project is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and has been written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
