Ryan Thomas’ heartwarming explanation for turning down Strictly Come Dancing stint

Former Corrie star Ryan Thomas is said to have turned the opportunity to appear on the hit BBC show after Strictly bosses were desperate to get him on board

Ryan Thomas has reportedly turned down the chance to appear on this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Corrie star is believed to have snubbed the highly sought after appearance on the hit BBC show due to family commitments.

The 36-year-old, who is engaged to Lucy Mecklenburgh, is not willing to his beloved fiancée for hours on end to attend gruelling rehearsals to gear up for the live shows.

Ryan’s decision was made even easier due to the fact that the lovebirds welcomed their first child, baby Roman, just five months ago.

A source told The Sun that although the former soap star has always eyed up a Strictly stint, now is not the right time.

The insider revealed: “Ryan doesn’t want to leave Lucy or the baby to work long hours on the show.

“Strictly bosses were hopeful he could be their big signing, but he doesn’t need the money.”

Although Ryan has reportedly turned down the amazing offer, he will be kept busy with his gorgeous little boy.

Despite stark rumours that Strictly would not be making a return in 2020, BBC has recently detailed an action plan which is in place for how to deal with a number of scenarios as the nature of restrictions to protect the public from Covid-19 are ever-changing.

An insider told The Sun: “The goalposts keep moving, so the big decisions are being left to the last minute so we’re as up to date as possible.

“But any concrete things we can decide on now, we are doing. Making one hit series is hard enough. As things stand, we are having to plan for hundreds.”

These “hundreds” of shows all deal with varying degrees of changes to restrictions, however, there are some areas now that appear to be certain.

There will be a much emptier studio than usual as the Elstree studio has a scaled-back studio audience to enable social distancing.

Even the crew itself will be majorly scaled back, as will security as the audience is reduced.

As well as this, contestants will be forced to do their own hair and makeup as the coronavirus continues to rage on.

The dancers have been rehearsing since July but still don’t know what form the real show will take.

Despite this, fans of Strictly can rest assured that the show is definitely on its way back but will be much different beast in 2020.
