Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay ‘killed over cocaine deal’ as two charged over ‘murder’

DJ Jam Master Jay was killed in 2002 and prosecutors have announced on Monday that two men have been charged with shooting the Run-DMC star

The killing of DJ Jam Master Jay in 2002 may finally have seen those responsible charged with the alleged murder.

Prosecutors have reportedly announced that the Run-DMC star, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was shot and killed after a cocaine deal ‘went wrong’.

The 37-year-old hip hop star died inside a Queens recording studio in October 2002.

Now, the New York Times has reported that two men, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr, have been charged with the murder of Jam Master Jay, while engaged in drug trafficking.

TMZ has reported that federal prosecutors are claiming that the Run-DMC star was trying to cut Washington out of a deal, after he had acquired 10 kilos of cocaine, which he was looking to sell on in Maryland.

There have been plenty of theories as to what happened on that fateful night in the New York City recording studio.

It has been reported that five people were present at the time Mizell was shot but no-one could say who exactly did the shooting.

There have been thoughts that Washington has been linked to the shooting since 2007 as he was reportedly sleeping on the sofa in Mizell’s property in the days before the alleged murder.

MIzell formed a third of the iconic hip hop group with Joseph ‘Run’ Simmons and Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniel.

They became global stars in the mid-80s with hits ‘It’s Tricky’ and ‘Walk This Way’, alongside Aerosmith in an famous rap/rock crossover.

The two suspects are currently in custody, with Washington already in federal prison after being charged with robbery.

Jordan was taken into custody on Sunday, according to The Times.
