Capital breakfast show host Roman Kemp is said to be ‘devastated’ by the loss of his friend and has been granted time away from his job

Roman Kemp is taking a break from his Capital FM breakfast show following the death of a close friend.

Listeners were left baffled when the radio host, 27, and his co-stars Sian Welby and Sonny Jay came off air mid-way through their radio show on Tuesday after learning the heartbreaking news.

Roman was left ‘devastated’ and ‘in complete shock’ after hearing the tragic news that his dear friend had passed away.

The bubbly star is now taking a temporary break from his role after being granted some time away on compassionate grounds.

Stand-in hosts Rob Howard and Lauren Layfield will take Roman’s place the rest of the week.

A source told Mail Online : “We can confirm that Rob Howard and Lauren Layfield will host Capital Breakfast for the rest of this week.”

It has not yet been confirmed if the pair will host the show after this week.

However, replacements are reportedly being drafted in for the group to cover Roman and his co-costs Sian and Sonny Jay.

An industry source told The Sun that Roman has been left utterly “shattered” by the tragedy.

The insider explained: “Roman and his colleagues are in complete shock, they can’t believe someone they were all close to is gone.

“They’ve all been left completely shattered by the upsetting news and are taking some time to grieve and digest the tragedy.

“It’s a tough time for them all right now.”

Roman has turned the Breakfast show into a huge success for the station and regularly pulls in four million listeners to his weekday broadcasts.
