Rock band KISS have been mocked after accidentally displaying an Australian flag at a concert in Austria.

The I Was Made For Loving You singers are in Europe for their End Of The Road tour.

On Sunday night they played a packed out gig at the Wiener Stadthalle stadium in Vienna, the Austrian capital.

While the band – made up of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss – appeared to bring the house down, they were mocked online afterwards.

Fans took to Twitter to point out the mistake, which had clearly been made by someone working on the set design rather than the band members themselves.

Instead of the red and white colours of the Austrian flag, the union jack and stars of the Australian flag appeared on a stage sign which spelled out ‘KISS loves you Vienna’.

One fan posted a photo of the offending flag and simply wrote: “Whoops.”

Another Twitter user commented: “BTW Vienna is NOT in Aussieland!!!”

Posting a gif of Jim Carrey as Lloyd Christmas in Dumb & Dumber, a social media user joked: “Austria? Nice. G’day, mate! Throw another shrimp on the barbie!”

“Thank you KISS for an incredible show and for bringing the kangaroos back to Vienna, Australia,” a fourth chimed in.

“I guess the graphics team got their Spinal Tap moment,” a fifth added.

KISS haven’t addressed the mix-up, instead posting a video of themselves at the gig on Twitter thanking fans.

They captioned the post: #VIENNA! Thank You for an AMAZING night! We love you! #EndOftheRoadTour #Austria.”

The tour is still ongoing with several more dates in Europe to follow in the next few weeks.

The band are set to play gigs at Rock Fest in Barcelona at the weekend, then France, Switzerland, Croatia and Italy.

Funnily enough, they will end the global leg of their world tour in Australia with nine dates in August and September, so they can reuse the flag then.
