Regis Philbin’s cause of death after broadcasting legend dies at 88

The beloved TV host died last week at the age of 88 – his cause of death has been confirmed by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office

Regis Philbin ‘s cause of death has been confirmed after the broadcasting legend died at the age of 88.

The beloved TV host died on Friday, July 24.

His cause of death has now been confirmed as myocardial infarction due to coronary artery disease and hypertension by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Farmington, Connecticut, reports Page Six.

Myocardial infarction is also known as a heart attack and occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to a part of the heart.

Coronary artery disease is a common but serious condition where the blood vessels supplying the heart become narrowed or blocked, and hypertension is when the pressure in the blood vessels is unusually high.

Regis was well known for hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, The Regis Philbin Show, and many others on US TV.

His family confirmed that he had died in a heartfelt statement.

They said: “We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday.”

His former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford was among those to pay tribute.

Speaking about the last time she saw her good friend, she said: “We just had the best time. I just thought to myself, ‘Lord, is that the last time I’m going to see my friend?’ Cause he was failing, I could tell.”

Kelly Ripa, another longtime screen partner of Regis, also paid tribute.

She said: “As people get older, you always know that certain things are inevitable, and passing away is one of those things, but Regis is one of the people that we all believed, I think, would somehow figure out a way around the inevitable.”

Regis’ loving wife Joy, 79, and their two daughters Jennifer, 45, and Joanna, 47, also spoke out after his sad death.

They said in a touching statement to People : “He let everyone into his life. He turned every little daily annoyance and happiness into a story, and he shared all those little stories with people in a joyful and conversational way.
