Rafael Nadal said Friday that he intends to play at Wimbledon later this month.
Nadal, who is ranked fourth in the world, is dealing with a degenerative condition called Mueller-Weiss syndrome, which affects the bones in the feet. “My intention is to play Wimbledon,” Nadal said. “If things don’t go as I would like, then we will see what will happen. (But) I am happy. I have gone a week without limping.”
Nadal is nearly two weeks removed from winning his 14th French Open title and record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title.
The 36-year-old underwent injections to be able to play in Paris and since had a radiofrequency nerve ablation procedure done in his native Spain.
‘Changes are Noticeable’
“(The medical treatment) done in Barcelona is not a 100 percent immediate thing, but changes are noticeable,” Nadal said. “I have noticed them, strange sensations, my joint pain has decreased.
“My intention is to play Wimbledon, to travel to London on Monday.”
