Pride of Britain’s Susanna Reid admits she’s more sensitive after emotional lockdown

EXCLUSIVE Pride of Britain judge Susanna Reid opened up about everything becoming “more raw and emotional” following the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown

Pride of Britain’s Susanna Reid confessed she’s more sensitive after lockdown.

In an exclusive chat with Mirror Online, Good Morning Britain’s presenter opened up about everything becoming “more raw and emotional” following the coronavirus pandemic.

Naturally then, it has proved to be her toughest year on the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award judging panel so far.

Susanna, 49, told Mirror Online: “Yeah [it’s the toughest year on the Pride of Britain panel because] I think we’re in a funny place, a weird sensitive place because of lockdown and the pandemic.

“Everything feels that little bit more raw and emotional.

“There’s so much we’ve all experienced but we want to celebrate those people who have done incredible things but we also need something light to put smile on our faces.”

Judging the nominees every year isn’t an easy feat and Susanna found 2020 to be her hardest year yet.

“It’s an incredibly difficult experience because every single person who is nominated deserves an award,” she said.

“You have older people who have gone through a lifetime struggle and you’ve got little children who’ve just had a raw experience and a bad stroke of experience. It is so hard to choose… But this year was definitely the toughest year.”

Utterly delighted to be involved, Susan heaped on praise for the Pride of Britain Awards going ahead during the coronavirus pandemic.

While the awards show would be different, the breakfast TV star shared the glittering ceremony would be “just as special”.

The mother-of-three enthused Pride of Britain is a “unifying night”, reminding people about “what is brilliant about the British spirit”.

She added: “It’s a unifying night where we all go wow these people are incredible they have overcome difficult experiences, sometimes they have succumbed and other people are fund raising as a result.

“We just remind ourselves what is brilliant about the British spirit and I’m so glad they are going ahead. It will be different but it’ll be just as special.”

Her own inspiration in lockdown has been Sir Captain Tom Moore who won a Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award for his astonishing fundraising walk.

ITV’s star gushed over the “legend” for inspiring so many people across the nation with his achievement.

She elaborated: “Captain Tom is such a legend. He inspired so many other people. This year has been about more people affected by COVID-19 but we’ve also seen the best our older generations.”
