Piers Morgan has made a screeching U-turn about his thoughts on Donald Trump throughout the space of this year.

The 55-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter, who was at one point a somewhat close friend of the US President, has tracked the fall out through the pages of his latest book Wake Up.

Written in the form of a diary, that documents the time frame of January to July 2020, there is a dramatic shift in Piers’ perspective surrounding the leader of the free world.

From singing his praises at the start of the year, to famously being unfollowed by Trump just four months later, the demise of this friendship coincides with a series of political events and failures surrounding the handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

His perspectives are initially laid bare in January, when Piers appears tout Donald Trump as being ‘a good friend’.

“It’s not easy being friends with the president of the United States when he’s as divisive as Trump,” Piers penned in the opening pages.

In the memoir, Piers maintains that the friendship didn’t stop him being critical about the President’s decisions – and he certainly wouldn’t vote for him in an election.

“I think he’s an extraordinary political character and find myself agreeing with as much of what he says and does as I disagree.

He continued: “I see both good and bad in Trump, and right and wrong. In some ways he is the least right-win Republican presidents ever.

Fast forward just one month, and the cracks begin to surface as Covid-19 begins to take grip of the United States and Europe.

In a telling entry, Piers writes: [Trump] most definitely can be blamed if his actions to combat the virus now cause additional unnecessary harm to the American people.”

In the space of jut a few chapters, it appeared that the US president had done the very thing that Piers had feared.

While there are several references made to Trump within the book, it was in April when the pair’s friendship came to a head.

After criticising the wild “reckless” ravings of Trump, who was pushing medical cures such as hydroxychloroquine at the time, the final straw of their friendship snapped when Piers penned a story titled “SHUT THE F*** UP, MR PRESIDENT.”

Just one day later, Donald unfollowed Piers on social media, marking an end to their camaraderie.

Throughout the remaining pages of Piers’ new book, in which he furiously slams ‘woke liberals’ and goes after the vegan sausage roll, Piers continues to criticise the divisive policies that brought the US to its knees.

“Donald Trump should be preparing to pack his bags at the White House,” Piers later adds.

He goes on: “he shamefully fuelled the fires with his shockingly tone-deaf and incendiary response to the country’s rage at George Floyd’s murder at the knee of a callous cop.”

So far, Trump is yet to re-follow Piers on social media.
