Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan and Jedward have found themselves locked in a fiery Twitter spat over JK Rowling’s new book.

The best-selling author, best known for the wildly popular Harry Potter series, has drawn criticism in recent months after speaking out on transgender issues.

Now it’s emerged the newest entry to her Cormoran Strike detective novel series – published under the pen-name Robert Galbraith – features a man who wears dresses when committing murders against women.

Released on Tuesday, the novel has sparked renewed transphobia allegations against the author.

Among those to level criticism at Rowling have been X Factor alums and twins John and Edward Grimes – better known as Jedward.

The pair penned a scathing tweet which read: “Does anyone need firewood this winter! JK’s new book is perfect to burn next to a Romantic fire. Aww get all cozy and comfy can’t wait.”

Piers weighed in on the debate by taking a swipe at the musical double act: “If we’re going to start burning things – which we shouldn’t – I’d rather start with your entire musical back catalogue. fyi.”

But no ones to be cowed, Jedward snapped back: “It’s a joke Piers, you know like you’re life. lol.

“Supporting a book about a serial killer man who dresses as a woman to kill his victims that’s being released when trans people are actually being targeted and killed isn’t a good look, even for you…”

Not backing down, Piers retorted: “a) It’s ‘your’. / b) I really wouldn’t be mocking others for having a joke life. / c) I haven’t read the book, and nor have you.”

Jedward replied: “Piers thank you for YOUR English lesson A+ for Grammar but you get a D for being a D**k. Happy to hear you have our entire music back catalogue!”

Piers again: “You haven’t read the book have you… so you called for it to be burned without even reading it. Ridiculous.”

“Piers!” Jedward came back, “What’s ridiculous is you fighting JK Rowling’s battles when she needs to reevaluate her actions and be aware of the consequences and damage her fictional book is inflicting on the transgender community!”

“I don’t even like JK Rowling,” Piers retorted, “I just find you clowns demanding her book be burned when you haven’t even read it pathetic.”

The controversy first arose when JK made clear her stance about the definitions of women and menstruation.

When she was met with criticism and abuse, she penned a lengthy open letter to expand on her concerns and shared that she’d been the victim of sexual and domestic abuse.
