Piers Morgan appears to mend feud with Donald Trump in ’25-minute phone call’
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan seems to have buried the hatchet with President Donald Trump as they share a phone call discussing the US election
Journalist Piers Morgan seems to have ended the downturn in his relationship with President Donald Trump.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, took to Twitter to share details of his chat with the US president, who had previously unfollowed Piers on Twitter despite having had a friendly relationship in the past.
Piers had beforehand slammed Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, writing in a Daily Mail column: “President Trump’s bats**t crazy coronavirus “cure” theories are not just shockingly senseless and stupid – they’re going to kill people.”
After Trump unfollowed him, Piers tweeted: “UPDATE: President @realDonaldTrump has unfollowed me on Twitter, hours after I wrote this @DailyMail column.”
Piers had also tweeted: “President Trump’s defence for floating bats**t crazy claims that injecting bleach can kill #coronavirus is that he was being “sarcastic”.
He added: “FFS @realDonaldTrump – this is not a joke. 50,000 Americans are dead & many more will die. Stop this nonsense & get serious.”
Now, it seems, the two have buried the hatchet as they shared a lengthy phone call and the US president apparently made a bold claim about the upcoming election.
Piers tweeted on Saturday: “Just had a 25-minute chat on the phone with President @realDonaldTrump from the White House. His last words? ‘Piers, I’m going to win.’”
However, when criticised for noting that Trump was not at the White House, Piers added: “* via White House switchboard…”.
When questioned by a Twitter user on whether Piers believes the President’s claim, Piers replied: “I believe Trump thinks he’s going to win, yes.”
Additionally, Piers shared a question from another follower who had asked: “As he is your friend, do you call him Donald or Mr President?”
The Good Morning Britain host replied: “I call him Mr President out of respect for the office he holds.”
The tweets come after Morgan appeared on Fox & Friends in the US and encouraged the President to follow him once again on Twitter.
Piers said: “If the president is watching, he might be, I know you unfollowed me on Twitter because I was very critical on you in this crisis.
“You may want to re-follow me now because if you take my advice you still have a chance to keep in the White House.”
The Life Stories presenter also claimed in a recent Daily Mail column that Trump had won the final presidential debate with former Vice-President Joe Biden on Thursday night.
Piers wrote: “His performance last night has given him an unexpected new springboard to salvage a shock victory from the jaws of apparently inevitable defeat.”
“Donald Trump won last night’s debate. Not by beating Joe Biden… but by beating himself. And in doing so, he may just have blown this race back open again.”
However, as of Saturday, President Trump still does not follow Piers Morgan on Twitter.
The US presidential election is due on November 3, 2020.
