Phillip Schofield has admitted that he is still feeling confusion about his identity, months after coming out.
The 58-year-old This Morning presenter revealed he was gay to co-host Holly Willoughby during an episode of the ITV daytime show and has now said that his head “is just as muddy” as it was before he came out.
Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, Phillip said he is no clearer about his identity than he was before he made his sexuality public.
The popular TV star said: “I’m still learning what effects that has on my life and the life of those around me.”
Phillip added: “Do I know who I am? No. I think if I’m honest, looking you right in the eye now, I’d say I’m still pretty confused.”
He admitted his “head’s just as muddy as it was before” but Phillip said he feels “no shame” and is “proud of who I am”.
Phillip admitted that he is not happy with how his coming out has affected his family and wants there to be no more pain for them caused by him.
He added: “I’m happy with who I am, I’m not happy with the damage it causes.”
Phillip has two daughters with his wife Steph and said he does not know “what my future is”.
“I know that I don’t want to hurt anyone any more than I’ve already hurt them, but I also know that we are, us four, the same but different, and we’re finding our way,” Schofield said.
On Sunday, Phillip was seen downing a whiskey sour before 9am but fortunately it was in celebration of a last day of filming rather than the onset of something darker.
He took fans behind the scenes of his forthcoming Christmas special dubbed How To Spend It Well, on which he offers up some expert advice on how to get the perfect gift, as well as exactly which latest and greatest gadgets to snap up for others.
He also shares his wisdom on saving cash when it comes to food, decorations and ornaments for the special day.
Taking to his Instagram Story before 8.30am, sleepy Phillip told fans what he was up to as he pulled up to the set.
He said: “It is very early in the morning… last day of filming for How to Spend It with the team here.”
Phillip then made his way into a beautifully decorated home as he showed off the stunningly decked out decor for the upcoming festive season.
It was then when he couldn’t resist pouring himself a drink as he rewarded his hard work with a well-earned whiskey sour.
“First shot of the day, a whiskey sour. It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it,” he told fans.
