Phillip Schofield praises Holly Willoughby for giving him ‘therapy’ during tough year

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has spoken about how supportive Holly Willoughby has been during lockdown months

Presenter Phillip Schofield has praised Holly Willoughby for how supportive she has been for him this year.

The This Morning presenter, 58, has had his co-star by his side throughout a year plagued by the Covid-19 pandemic and she also supported him when he publicly came out as gay on the show in February.

Speaking to Chris Moyles on Radio X on Monday morning, Phillip discussed working on This Morning during the height of lockdown.

The presenter revealed: “When the wheels fell off the world and we all went into lockdown, Holly and I were doing our own make-up in the This Morning studio on our own looking at each other, thinking ‘What the hell is going on?’

“It was like a therapy session all the way through.

“We knew that we were going up the stairs to do the show and people saying ‘Oh thank God you’re still on, thank God you’re still on, just a little bit of normality.'”

Phillip was full of praise for how much of a support system Holly was for him during the difficult time of the coronavirus pandemic.

The host added: “For us, for me, spending those mornings with Holly – she is a very good counsellor – those mornings were gold dust and she is definitely a remarkable person.”

He also revealed earlier in the chat with Chris that Holly has now finished reading his new book, Life’s What You Make It.

Phillip revealed: “She text me yesterday, she WhatsApped me to say she has finished the book and she was so lovely.

“She has been incredible. I’ve been very lucky to have astonishing people around me who have been brilliant.”

Meanwhile, Phillip also couldn’t help but hype up the new series of his gameshow The Cube which is due to return on ITV this week.

He teased to Chris: “It’s the best series and hand on heart…it’s the best we’ve ever done.”

Well, not much to live up to then!

This Morning continues on weekday mornings on ITV.
