Oscar-nominated actress Carmen Sevilla has died aged 89.

Spanish media outlet El Nacional released a statement on Sunday to reveal that Carmen had passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was believed to have been with her beloved son Augusto Algueró when she passed away at a residential home on Friday.

The much-loved actress passed just five days before she would have celebrated her 90th birthday.

Back in 2012, it was announced that the talented star was in a “very advanced” stage of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who once starred alongside Charlton Heston, was born in Seville, Spain, in 1930.

Carmen’s was María del Carmen García Galisteo but decided to shorten her name when she made it big in the showbiz world.

She shot to fame after her first role in Jalisco Sings In Seville in 1948.

Carmen then went on star in a number of classic films and was even nominated for an Academy Award for Vengeance, Searching for Monica in 1962.

She also starred in a number of big films in the 1950s such as Andalousie in 1951 and Love and Desire and Imperial Violets in 1952.

The actress is survived by her son Augusto.

May she rest in peace.
