Montrezl Harrell Leaves LA Clippers to Sign a Two-Year Deal With the Laekrs

A very interesting night in the NBA was highlighted with several big moves. The most sounding was Montrezl Harrell’s jump from the LA Clippers to their biggest rivals, the Lakers.

The 27-year old decided to move on from the franchise where he spent three years and try something new. It seems that Harrell believes his chances to win the title are much better with the purple and gold than with the Clippers.

Per sources, the players and the LAL are going to sign a two-year $19 million deal, with the second year having a player’s option. He is expected to provide depth on the inside positions, especially following Dwight Howard’s decision to leave the Lakers and join Philadelphia on a one-year deal.

Harrell won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award this past season, averaging 18.6 points and 7.1 boards throughout 63 matches played. Yet his stats in the playoffs were much lower, 10.5 buckets with only 2.9 boards. He left the team and the bubble in Orlando because of his grandmother’s death.

Power forward was also involved in a bizarre incident during the playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks, once he used vulgar words calling out Luka Doncic.

Harrell’s move disappointed a lot of Clippers’ fans and some players as well. Patrick Beverly couldn’t hide his surprise, the same as several other players from around the league.

The Lakers are planning to defend the title, and they already made several transactions to strengthen the team. Among them is trading for Dennis Schroder, who will be Harrell’s partner in the second unit. Frank Vogel is aware that LeBron‘s age might become a factor as time goes by, and that is why Lakers’ head coach wanted to add more offensive weapons.

Shroder and Harrell should have the same role as Williams and Harrell had in Clippers, and that is to keep the productivity at the same level without the top stars on the court.

The Lakers’ latest addition was drafted as the 32nd overall pick back in 2015 by the Houston Rockets, where he spent the first two years. However, his rise began after the trade to the Clippers in 2017. Harrell played 318 games in the NBA, averaging 12.7 points with 4.9 rebounds while having an extremely high field goal percentage, .614.
