Megan Thee Stallion‘s career has definitely been launched into new heights these past few years. However, the path she had since she got famous was riddled with tragedies. Her mom passed away, the scandals, legal battles with her label and the whole Tory Lanez shooting.
The Houston rapper could not catch a break, but despite all of these difficulties, she keeps on rising. Alongside Cardi B, she topped the charts with their song “WAP.”
Now, at 25 years old, Megan Thee Stallion has been included in TIME’s annual “100 Most Influential People” list. Actress Taraji P. Henson wrote Megan Thee Stallion’s entry in the magazine.
“I remember hearing Megan Thee Stallion on one of those famous DJ radio shows a few years ago. She rode the beat like I’d never heard anybody ride the beat in a long time—and I’m a hip-hop head. There was something about this woman. Once you discover her, you become a fan,” wrote Henson.

“I don’t like to put the stigma of the word strong on Black women because I think it dehumanizes us, but she has strength—strength through vulnerability. She’s lost much of her family—her mother, her father, her grandmother—yet she is the epitome of tenacity, of pulling herself up by her bootstraps,” added Henson, recalling all the tragedies Megan has been through.
Henson noted all the success the rapper has had since she went viral with “Hot Girl Summer,” “Savage” and “WAP,” saying that Megan is definitely more than what we get to see.
