Former Dancing on Ice contestant Maura Higgins has spoken of her hurt at being labelled a “homewrecker”.
The Love Island star, 29, was targeted by trolls when her ice skating partner Alex Demetriou split from wife Carlotta Edwards in April.
“It was frustrating,” admits Maura.
“It wasn’t nice going into my DMs and being called a ‘homewrecker’ and the rest.
Both Alex and Maura repeatedly insisted they were just close friends.
Maura raged at the time: “I have more male friends than female – get over it!”
Alex later said Carlotta struggled with the dance partners’ “close bond”, which he said was a factor in the demise of his marriage.
Maura – speaking to launch her new Christmas beauty gift sets – insists she is “unfazed” while being bombarded with nasty messages.
“To be honest, I’m used to it,” says Maura.
“Not everyone’s always going to like you, that’s what my mammy taught me.
“The world would be a strange place if everyone liked each other,” she added.
