Louise Thompson deletes ‘disrespectful’ Remembrance Day post after criticism from fans
The Made In Chelsea star shared a snap of herself on the beach in the Maldives with a poignant excerpt of Laurence Binyon’s 1914 poem, For the Fallen as her caption
Louise Thompson was forced to delete part of her Remembrance Day social media post after coming under heavy criticism from fans.
The former Made In Chelsea star, 30, had chosen to honour the war dead this year by sharing a photo of her reflecting during a quiet moment of her holiday to the Maldives.
A smiling Louise was pictured on a sandy beach posing beside her ‘Happy Days’ handbag while clad in a blue mini dress and heels.
In the caption she shared an excerpt from war poet Laurence Binyon’s famous 1914 poem, For the Falling to pay her respects.
It read: ‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
“At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.”
Louise then added: “Thanks for sacrificing so much for our freedom.”
The combination of the sun-drenched holiday photo and poignant verse lyrics did not sit well with some of the star’s 1.2million followers who told her it was ‘distasteful’ and begged her to change it.
“I’m a fan but not right sentiment,” one told her.
However, others defended Louise with one saying: “I think the caption and sentiment behind it is she has the freedom to travel and live the life she wants too because of the sacrifices made by the war heroes. If she wants to put a pic on of her holiday then why not? It’s remembrance Sunday, people can remember, reflect etc how ever they like or indeed choose not to!”
Another agreed: “Well tbh at least @louise.thompson is posting something about Remembrance and acknowledging it. There are a lot of influencers her age who are not even recognising it.”
However, Louise clearly had second thoughts herself as she chose to delete the entire caption and replace it with a single butterfly emoji the same shade as her dress and shoes.
“Glad to see you changed the caption. Completely inappropriate and disrespectful,” one follower told her after noticing the ammendement.
Louise is currently enjoying a loved-up holiday to the idyllic Maldives with her beau Ryan Libbey.
In April this year, the brunette beauty said she was ‘working on her relationship’ with Ryan months after calling off their wedding.
Last December, Louise decided to halt their big day but later admitted that during the first lockdown the pair had agreed to ‘try harder’ at their engagement.
Louise has also been supporting her brother Sam through his recent break-up with Zara McDermott.
Fans were shocked to see Louise also reach out to Zara after she revealed that she’d cheated on Sam with a music executive.
Last month Zara tried to win Sam back by sharing a video to Instagram of all their happy times together.
