Kristen Stewart has said that her upcoming Princess Diana biopic will be “really poetic”.
The Happiest Season star, 30, is due to portray the iconic royal figure in the upcoming biopic, entitled Spencer.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kristen discussed her own personal memories of the late Princess from when growing up.
Discussing the widespread love for Diana, she said: “I feel sort of the same way about her, and it happened really quickly.
“I didn’t grow up with her maybe in the same way.
“I was really young when she passed away.”
However, she recalled: “I remember all the flowers [outside Buckingham Palace].”
Kristen also said that playing such a famous figure made her “stand to attention in the best way”.
Gesturing her hands forwards, the Twilight star noted: “She was so young and she comes out to here.
“Everybody’s perspective is different and there’s no way to get anything right because what is fact in relation to personal experience?”
Diana’s youth and tough experience at a young age has made Kristen “protective over her”, according to the actress.
The film, entitled Spencer after Diana’s maiden name, is to be directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín, who won huge acclaim for his biopic Jackie, which starred Natalie Portman in an Oscar-nominated performance as US First Lady Jackie Kennedy.
The script has been penned by Peaky Blinders creator/writer Steven Knight and is reported to focus specifically on the final Christmas that Diana spent with the Royal Family as she realised that her marriage to Prince Charles was breaking down for good.
Kristen described the film Spencer as a “really poetic and internal imagining” of Diana’s life.
A 19-year-old Lady Diana Spencer became engaged to Charles, Prince of Wales in 1981 and they married the same year.
The couple went on to have two sons: Prince William and Prince Harry.
They separated in 1992 after the marriage broke down irretrievably and they eventually divorced in 1996.
Despite losing her HRH title, Diana remained Princess of Wales upon her divorce.
Her tragic death in August 1997 shocked the world after she died in a car crash in Paris, alongside her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul.
The iconic royal’s life was recently portrayed to great acclaim by actress Emma Corrin in the fourth season of Netflix royal drama The Crown.
Corrin will be replaced by Elizabeth Debicki for the final two seasons of The Crown, but Corrin is reportedly expected to make appearances via flashback sequences.
Stewart herself can currently be seen in Christmas rom-com Happiest Season, available now on digital.
