Katie Piper calls for tough sentences over acid attacks
Katie Piper bravely shared details of the acid attack that scarred her for life as she underwent a new eye operation.
The 38-year-old Loose Women presenter suffered horrific injuries in the brutal attack in 2008, when she had sulphuric acid thrown in her face while walking down the street in London.
She had burns to her face, chest, arms and hands, and was left blinded in one eye, and has undergone 400 operations since the attack.
In a post on social media, she documented her latest surgery, which involved having an injection in her eyeball to repair some of the damage to her cornea.
“Yesterday I went back to @centreforsightsuk for more treatment. I saw the incredible @SherazDaya, my amazing doctor who has helped me throughout the years to regain some of my sight,” Katie said of the op.

The Loose Woman panellist, who suffered horrific injuries to her face, chest arms and hands, including being blinded in one eye, outlined the process.
“The procedure was a PGRF treatment and involved an injection in to my eye ball (which I wasn’t looking forward to) but jokes aside am so grateful for the skill of all the team and advances in modern medicine,” she continued.
“This journey of treatment will hopefully help my cornea which I am having ongoing problems with,” the mum-of-two added.

Earlier this year, she spoke candidly about the skin grafts she had to have after the acid attack, and said surgeons rebuilt her face in pioneering surgery using collagen and elastin from a cow.
“My burn went through the muscle and down to the skeleton, so it was a very, very deep burn,” Katie said during an episode of Lorraine Kelly’s What If? podcast in March.

“Because it’s a corrosive substance, you think with fire you can put it out and maybe minimise the damage, but with me all four layers of the skin were destroyed,” she explained.
“This foundation is made from collagen and elastin taken from a cow. Queue all the moody cow jokes! My face is made out of a cow,” she laughed.
