Kate Garraway shares hope after wonderful notes amid Derek’s coronavirus battle

Kate Garraway shared her fresh hope for her husband Derek Draper.

Good Morning Britain’s presenter, 52, thanked her legion of admirers for their “wonderful wonderful messages” of support.

It’s been a tough few months for Kate since her husband Derek was rushed to hospital with coronavirus in March.

While he remains in hospital, the presenter shared “miracle moment” her husband spoke for the first time in 214 days.

Her 955k followers have rallied around her and been a pillar of support during her darkest hours.

Kate voiced her new hope with a hashtag in her latest social media post.

She wrote: “Thank you so much for all your wonderful wonderful messages – #hope.”

It comes after Kate broke down in tears when she revealed her husband had spoken his first word in a miracle moment.

The GMB star shared her joy with her co-stars Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Monday.

She said: “Back in April when we chatted for the first time and I said, look, he seems to have survived so far… this could be it [miracle].”

Kate opened up about the miracle moment she witnessed Derek first speak while she felt equally devastated her husband revealed he was in pain.

She said: “[The hospital staff] keep talking to him and they would say ‘Ok, we’re just going to move your arm or leg’ and every time they said ‘Let us know if you feel pain.’

“He mouthed ‘pain’… everyone stopped and stared.”

“It is heartbreaking because he does feel pain but what it does mean is that he has been able to feel a sensation in his body and connect it with his brain and then mouth pain,” she said.

“I believe he is in there,” Kate said. “That’s a long way from who Derek is….but it’s a start.”

She added: “The power of hope is huge but you’re constantly trying to think if hope is still real.”

“I was getting scared because I was thinking if it’s hard for him, how hard must it be for him stuck in there.

“He’s been able to fight out of there.”
