John Lydon tells ‘narcissistic’ Meghan Markle to get ‘council flat and a job’

The Sex Pistols’ John Lydon has slammed the decisions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they stepped back from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family

John Lydon has slammed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for their decision to step back from their senior roles in the Royal Family.

The Sex Pistols frontman, 64, has questioned the pair’s actions in an extract from his new book I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right, which was obtained by the Mail Online.

In his book, Lydon refers to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their encouragement of Americans to vote in the upcoming US presidential election, along with Meghan’s recent guest appearance on America’s Got Talent.

John writes: “I don’t get it at all.

“If they don’t want to be part of that [royal] institution, then why don’t they completely give up their titles and get a council flat and a job?”

He adds: “Making guest appearances on trashy TV shows and expounding their virtuous opinions — there’s nothing virtuous in it at all.

“They’ve decided not to do something, so why don’t they move on and leave it alone?”

However, John shared his regret about Prince Harry deciding to take a step back.

John went on to write that he thinks it’s “a shame about Harry” as he didn’t have to go the way in life that he did.

But he clearly doesn’t think as favourably of Meghan, saying she “seems like a narcissist”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first announced their decision to step down from roles as senior members of the Royal Family in January.

A statement from the couple read: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.”

They added: “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”

The pair subsequently stepped down from their roles on March 31, later going on to reside in Canada and then in Los Angeles, California, USA with their baby son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
