During its 10-year run, Friends spawned endless on-screen hookups between the cast.
From Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) and Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) romping on a snooker table to Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) and Joey Tribiani (Matt LeBlanc) breaking Ross’ heart with an ill-fated romance, there’s been no shortage of action.
But what about off screen? Given the six main members of the cast were inseparable for an entire decade, fans have always been convinced that at least some of them must have hooked up.
And in a 2016 TV tribute with creator James Burrows, the cast hinted that a whole lot of loving had gone on!
When host Andy Cohen asked if they’d signed contracts “saying that you wouldn’t sleep with each other?” there was an awkward silence before Lisa finally spoke up.
“David, say something!” she giggled, prompting her co-star to quip, “Well, that was broken!”
So what did fan favourite Jennifer get up to before tying the knot with Brad Pitt 20 years ago today?
Matt LeBlanc
The rumour mill went into meltdown when Matt’s dad Paul went rogue and claimed that his son had been secretly ‘making out’ with Jen.
Both vehemently denied claims of an on-set fling, but Paul insisted Matt had boasted about snogging his co-star.
“He even had a relationship with one of of the girls… Jen,” Paul alleged to OK! USA.
“[Matt] got on good with Jen. He told me about it – they would make out in the dressing room,” Paul told OK! USA.
But reps for both shut it down, with Jen’s publicist stating, “Jennifer has never had a romantic or sexual relationship with Matt LeBlanc.”
Meanwhile, in the same interview Paul continued to pan his own son, harshly suggesting that a life of obesity was beckoning Matt.
He continued: “He was as good looking as anyone in Hollywood. But he isn’t going to age well. It’s the high life – I’ll see him with his gut hanging over his belt.
“He’s not someone who keeps himself toned when he’s not in front of the cameras.”
Nice.
David Schwimmer
Following her 2005 split from Brad Pitt, rumours flew that Jennifer and her on-screen love interest David Schwimmer (Ross) were dating in real life.
However, David went on to marry British artist Zoe Buckman in 2010 while Jen wed actor Justin Theroux in 2015.
But according to recent reports, with his seven-year marriage to Zoe now over and Jen single following her divorce from Justin, David’s apparently keen to reconnect.
“David’s always held a candle for Jen and has never stopped loving her,” a source claimed to New Idea magazine.
“But it was a case of never being the right time as one of them was always in a relationship after their fling all those years ago.”
David’s rep denied the claims, telling Gossip Cop the story was false.
Paul Rudd
He might have joined the show as Phoebe Buffay’s boyfriend-turned-husband Mike Hannigan, but it was Jen who apparently used to hook up with Paul in real life.
The two are rumoured to have embarked on a brief romance – just before she met Brad Pitt – when Paul played her gay best friend in 1998 movie The Object of My Affection.
They later starred as a couple in 2012 movie, Wanderlust. And asked whether or not it was weird to kiss on screen, Jen joked, “Nah. I’ve kissed him for years,” and Paul quipped, “we’ve made out for decades.”
Tate Donovan
Paul wasn’t the only guest star Jen had history with.
Tate joined as Rachel Green’s hunky Bloomingdale’s client for six series, but it awkwardly co-incided with the end of their real-life engagement.
“We were broken up and the producers were like, ‘Hey would you wanna do six episodes of the show?’ And I was like ‘Maybe it would be good to work through this breakup,'” he told the Huffington Post.
