James Whale thanks black cab driver for act of kindness during cancer battle

James Whale was blown away by the kindness of a stranger after the black cab driver took him to hospital for free for his cancer treatment

James Whale shared kind words about a black cab driver for taking him to hospital for free amid his cancer fight.

His devastating diagnosis revealed he’s battling brain, spine, kidney and lung cancer.

But the radio legend, 69, was blown away by the kindness of a stranger when the black cab driver refused to take any money for his trip to hospital on Thursday.

James was “really touched” by the kind gesture so the first thing he did on his arrival was share his story with the world on Twitter.

The CelebrityBig Brother personality headed to hospital for treatment following his cancer diagnosis two weeks ago.

His poignant story was accompanied by a picture of the star wearing his mask.

He wrote: “At hospital waiting for some treatment going to give a shout out to Gary black cab driver who brought me here but wouldn’t let me pay result.

“Thanks mate that gesture really touched me.”

The radio star’s wife Melinda died two years ago following a fight with lung cancer.

This is James’ second cancer diagnosis after a battle with the disease in 2000 which meant he had to have his kidney removed.

Initially the CelebrityBig Brother star admitted he thought about ending his life at Dignitas following the diagnosis in recent weeks.

At first euthanasia plagued his mind as the talkRADIO star lamented the thought “might as well go and get it over with”.

Now he has hopes of fighting the disease with everything he can spurred on by his desire to live to at least 70 and to return to radio.

He told The Sun : “I came home, had a little think about things. I decided I’m just booking myself a trip to Dignitas. You might as well just go and get it over with.

“I’d looked into it quite some time ago because Melinda died two years ago and it’s been something in the back of my mind.”

He continued: “This little bastard has spread. It’s in my remaining kidney. I’ve got a couple of small lesions in my lungs. I’ve got it in my spine. I’ve got it in my brain.”
