James Cameron recently came out to reveal a huge update regarding the next installment of Avatar. Over the weekend, Collider reported, James Cameron shared that he and the rest of the Avatar team were working hard at the next two sequels of the film in New Zealand.
Earlier in the year, they had to shut down production due to the coronavirus pandemic, moreover, there were travel restrictions that affected the cast and crew which led them to put everything on hold from March until June.
A couple of months later, and now Cameron is delivering more status updates on the next movies. During a chat with the Terminator star via video call this weekend at the 2020 Austrian World Summit, Arnold Schwarzenegger and James talked about the next movie.
Amid their phone call, Cameron revealed they had finished filming for Avatar 2 and he also made more updates on the following film, Avatar 3. James said to Arnold that COVID-19 hit them like “anybody,” and they lost around 4 months and a half of production.

James said it has already been announced, but it doesn’t mean there is an extra year to work on the film, because right after Avatar 2 comes out, they’re going to work on Avatar 3. Cameron says he and the rest of his team have around 10% left to go.
He added that they’re currently 100% complete on Avatar 2 and around 95% complete on the following movie. Even though they’ve made a lot of progress in all of the movies, James says there is a lot more work to go yet.
Avatar has been pushed back an entire year from December 2021 until 2022 of the same month. Avatar 3, on the other hand, has been pushed back from December 2023 until December 2024. Fans of cinema know Avatar was one of James Cameron’s most commercially successful films.
Mr. Cameron has released a long line of billion-dollar movies to the point that he rarely releases a film that doesn’t reach the billion-dollar-club or at least close to it. Released in 2009 on a $237 million budget, Avatar pulled in $2.79 billion at the box office.
